]]>The post All Water Meters Will Be Replaced To Improve Accuracy And Efficiency first appeared on Linn County, KS.
]]>Getty explained that although the village previously installed MTU (Meter Transmission Units) on top of the existing water meters that transmits water usage data, the new system will replace both the MTU and the water meters which were originally installed more than 30 years ago.
“The new system includes everything and will replace the old meter units and the MTU devices that allow the village to quickly and accurately record water usage,” Getty said. The Mayor emphasized that the changeover will not impact water usage fees, which will remain the same, and called it “an important major upgrade that is badly needed.”
“In doing this, the village will also be checking every resident’s water service lines for water leaks,” Getty explained. Getty said that the new water meters and sensors will be installed by United Meters Incorporated, a union licensed contractor.
The Lyons Police Department completed a comprehensive background check on every employee that included fingerprinting. “The installers will be wearing Village of Lyons safety vests and will carry an ID. We would not allow anyone into residents homes without making sure they have a clean background,” said Getty. Any resident that has a concern about an installer knocking at their door should call the village.
The Illinois Clean Water Initiative is providing funding for the upgrades, which cost on average $325 per installation.

]]>You may have noticed trucks entering neighborhoods at times earlier than usual. This change is due to staffing and route changes and the new collection enhancements in their vehicles. As a reminder, the best way to ensure you do not miss the truck – all carts should be placed curbside by 6:00 AM, as referenced in City Ordinance § 149-4. Waste collection.
Carts must be at least one foot apart and at least two feet from any obstacle that could prevent the arm from fully lifting and emptying the cart (this can include cars or mailboxes).
We hope this will help answer any lingering questions about the curbside collection. Recycling continues to be a top priority with both environmental and financial benefits for our community.

]]>As we look ahead to more storms in the fall season, here are some tips for handling common storm situations:
To report storm debris or fallen tree limbs, use our Public Works reporting system.
This reporting tool can be used for other issues, too. Have drainage concerns? See a pothole? Need to replace a trash or recycling cart? Notice a traffic light issue? Please use the Reporting System to report it.
If storm debris or fallen limbs/trees are blocking the roadway, call the Police Department non-emergency line at (123)456-7890; however, if there is an emergency, dial 911.
If you experience a power outage or see a downed power line, you may report it to Central Maine Power at 1-800-111-2222 or online.
You can also use the above link to check the status of CMP’s repairs.
Finally, keep your eyes on the forecast and prepare for storms by charging any devices you may need to communicate should you experience a power outage.

]]>The approved budget includes a reduction from the rolled back millage rate. (The rollback millage rate is the property tax rate that would produce the same revenues from existing properties.) The millage rate was lowered from 5.8587 to 5.5300.
The millage rate reduction results in about $1.8 million remaining with taxpayers. The $255 million tentative budget is 2.57% lower than the current year’s adopted budget primarily due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fiscal Year 2020/21 runs from Oct. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2021.
