Business Licensing

A business license is required to engage in business in the City of Springfield whether you are located within Springfield, or simply conducting business in Springfield. To determine if your business is located within the Springfield City limits, view a City of Springfield interactive Map and search by your address, or see a PDF street map of Springfield instead.

If your place of business is not located within the City limits, but you or your agents will be physically coming into the City to conduct business, call on clients, or provide services, you will also need a Springfield business license. Refer to the list of exempt businesses if you are not sure whether your business requires a license.

We wanted to let you know about some important license updates.

  • Business Licensing and Cashiering will be moving to the New Customer Service Division on the first floor of City Hall.
  • The minimum license fee and per FTE fee is changing to $112.00 in 2018 (per hour fee calculated by multiplying total hours worked by $0.058333; 1920 hours equivalent to 1 FTE)
  • If you are no longer engaging in business in the City of Springfield, please email businesslicense@wordpress.gov noting your City of Springfield business name and license number
