American Legion and Linn County host County Government Day every year in March. On Thursday, March 9th,  Government students and teachers from Jayhawk Linn, Pleasanton and Prairie View high schools will participate in the day.  The Opening Ceremony will include an address from the Linn County Commissioners, Flag Folding by the American Legion Post #248, a brief history of the Courthouse, and information from Linn County Clerk, David Lamb on Elections and Voter Registration.  Following the Opening Ceremony students will participate in a guided tour of the Linn County Courthouse, Sheriff’s Department and Judicial Center.  Emergency Services, Fire Department, Road crews, Solid Waste, and the Health Department will set up displays inside and outside the Courthouse for students to tour and participate in some hands on activities.

Elected Officials and other courthouse employees will explain the purpose of each office as it pertains to the citizens of Linn County. The Clerk’s office will provide students who will reach their 18th birthday prior to the November 7th election the opportunity to register to vote. The American Legion will be providing lunch to all students, teachers and staff. In the afternoon Students will partake in a mock trial which is sponsored by the Linn County Attorney’s office, District Court and Jesse T. Randall-Attorney At Law. Students will receive a Linn County souvenir bag that will include a Linn County several items donated by different County departments.  There will also be a drawing for some additional prizes.
